Job Purpose

To lead the sport and leisure functions, making a major contribution to strategic developments across the city, ensuring the delivery of innovative and outstanding public services.

Provide leadership and vision for sports & leisure within the City and externally at a regional and national level, working closely with stakeholders.

A key function of the role is to drive forward major projects and modernisation programmes to support our Clients strategies and future developments.

The postholder will be an active advocate for health and wellbeing through sport and physical activity, for our Clients substantial outdoor events programme, and the continued development of the city’s magnificent seafront for business and leisure.

Principal Accountabilities

• To provide strategic and operational leadership for the development and delivery of effective sport and leisure services in the City.
• To be our Clients lead professional officer on sport, seafront and outdoor events and a member of the directorate’s senior management team.
• To align sport and leisure services to the our Clients strategic aims, priorities, and objectives. This includes getting more people active and using leisure as a driver for the improvement of people’s health and wellbeing.
• Work strategically with various stakeholders including: elected members, executive directors, assistant directors, service managers, trade unions and external partners to build, maintain and advance our Client’s agenda.
• Drive continuous improvements to deliver outstanding services.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to staff in the sport and leisure team and be responsible for the management of its budgets.
